Harsh Conditions: Matrimony Distress!
In chapter 24 of Deuteronomy, the Israelites had a set of rules to follow. From the act of giving to marriage and even cruel labor. These are the principles the people had to follow during their time.
Ground Rules for Separation
When a man divorces his wife and both go their separate ways. The relationship they once had cannot be reestablished since one of them committed adultery. Without a doubt, God finds this an act of disobedience toward his word.
“then her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after she has been defiled, for that is an abomination before the Lord. And you shall not bring sin upon the land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance.” - Deuteronomy 24:4
Burden Labor
Working a 9-5 job was not around the time of Canaan, but working from morning to evening was necessary. Thus, working during those times also required payment to be provided up front.
“You shall not oppress a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the sojourners who are in your land within your towns. You shall give him his wages on the same day, before the sun sets (for he is poor and counts on it), lest he cry against you to the Lord, and you be guilty of sin.” - Deuteronomy 24:14-15
Look into the amount of labor the Israelities went through all throughout Egypt
I appreciate your time. God Bless! Sincerely, God’s word.
